Source Filmmaker now in open beta

The new storytelling tool 'Source Filmmaker' that went in close beta two weeks ago has now become open beta, for free, to everyone.

The SFM is a storytelling tool Valve developed inside the Source Engine to create all its animated short films, including those in the "Meet the Team" series of Team Fortress 2 shorts. The SFM condenses the production pipeline of an animation studio down onto a single gaming PC. To help the community get started, the SFM includes all assets from Team Fortress 2 along with assets from two of the "Meet the Team" short films.

    I got the closed beta, and I was special for about 5 hours, then it force-closed, and a Steam pop-up said it was in open beta.

    I've had idea's for videos to make with this for ages, but I just can't get the hang of puppeteering, those tutorials didn't really help with that. Still, it's a fun little thing to mess around with for a bit until I can get the hang of it.

    same for me ^^ i've got it yesterday ;/ also ... 9h to install it, i had problem with windows

    Meh, not like anybody here would use it anyways. I would mess around with it... but nothing serious. I don't see why people are so anxious about it, they probably would do the same. Rather them make the film maker around 20 bucks and get serious animators and such to buy and use this for actual purposes.

    I don't have luck with beta programs from a very long time...

    Make sure to check it in your games folder and not the tools folder. It's a little weird they put it there.
